A man’s body has been found face down in the waters off Glenelg.

The 61-year- old Adelaide man was found with no signs of violence and was reported missing at 9pm last night.

Emergency services were called to the popular metropolitan beach after responding to an “incident”, around 6.50am Thursday.

Jill Banstone was walking her labrador when she made the shocking discovery, stumbling upon the man’s body in the shallow parts of the water near the jetty.

“I realised when I got closer it wasn’t a rock. He was face down,” she said.

She immediately called police, who dragged the man out of the water as the tide came in.

Police have yet to confirm any further details about the identity or the circumstances that led to the death but said it’s not believed to be suspicious.

They also said he had possible mental health issues.

However, The Advertiser has spoken to the family of the man, who said he did not suffer with mental health issues.

Western District CIB and crime scene investigators examined the scene and a report is being prepared for the Coroner.

The man’s family also visited the scene.
