Police believe car fires at Westfield Marion carpark intentionally started

Two cars have been totally destroyed and three others badly damaged after a suspicious fire at a popular southwest shopping centre.

Two cars have been completely destroyed, another three badly damaged, after a suspected deliberately lit fire at Westfield Marion Park on Monday.

Emergency services rushed to the busy shopping centre, around 11am after police received reports of two cars on fire in the Westfield Marion carpark, at the intersection of Sturt Rd and Diagonal Rd, near the Myer entrance.

Initial reports said MFS found one car alight, while two vehicles parked either side were also affected by the blaze, with one badly damaged.

Emergency services found two cars completely destroyed by the fire, while another three sustained damage.

MFS fireys extinguished the blaze in 10 minutes while traffic management was put in place to help the public trying to flee the carpark safely.

No injuries were reported.

Crime scene investigators Southern District CIB went to the scene to investigate.

A cause of the fire has not yet been determined, but police believe the fire was deliberately lit.
