Pensioner killer Angelika Gavare 'stole from customers' of newsagency

CONVICTED killer Angelika Gavare does not have any defence to fraud charges because she confessed to deceit during her murder trial, a court has heard.

Gavare, 35, appeared by video link in the Adelaide Magistrates Court yesterday.

She is yet to plead to aggravated counts of dishonest dealing with documents.

Court papers accuse her of defrauding customers of a Noarlunga newsagency on August 23, 2008. The money allegedly taken during each transaction was between $100 and $200.

She also is accused of defrauding a man, Silio Dottore, on December 10 of that year.

Last week Gavare was jailed for life, with a 32-year non-parole period, for the 2008 murder and dismemberment of pensioner Vonne McGlynn, 82.

During the trial Gavare denied being a killer but conceded she had intended to defraud people.

She said she was fired from the newsagency after customers accused her of stealing their money.

She also admitted having a fake Justice of the Peace stamp and forging documents to defraud Mr Dottore. But she "didn't go through" with that plan, she said.

Yesterday John Wells, prosecuting, said the fraud charges arose from the murder investigation.

"In the course of the murder trial Gavare made what are, in my submission, very clear admissions to these offences," he said. "I'm not sure there is any basis for a defence."

He asked the magistrate to adjourn the case until February.
