A man has died after being hit by a train near the Alberton station on Saturday morning.

More than five police vehicles closed off Prince St between Fussell Place and Brougham Place.

State Emergency Services crews and SA Police officers responded to the incident – after being called out about 7.10am Saturday morning.

Commuters on board the train, at the time of the incident, have been removed and are being transported to their destination via taxis.

One commuter travelling to Port Adelaide, who requested to stay anonymous, said he heard a “bang noise” moments before the train halted, then remained on board for “about an hour”.

Train services on the Outer Harbor line are currently suspended between Woodville and Outer Harbor, Adelaide Metro said in a statement.

“Substitute buses are being arranged to operate to Outer Harbor.

“Trains continue to run between Adelaide and Woodville.”

Motorists and pedestrians are being urged to avoid the area.
