Pedare graduate defends school after secret teen ‘fight club’ gets rumbled

A recent graduate of a private college embroiled in a ‘fight club’ scandal has defended her school, saying it could “not do much about it”. Find out why.

‘Fight club’ videos emerge at Adelaide private school

A recent graduate of an Adelaide private college has defended her school following revelations of a toilet block ‘fight club’, and said parents and social media need to do more to discourage violent behaviour.

The graduate, who wanted to be referred to only by her initial ‘H’, finished her education at Pedare Christian College in 2024 and said her experience was of “a genuinely good place” where “the school went above and beyond to support me”.

Despite this, the now 18-year-old was not shocked by the violence that was filmed in the toilet block.

“Being at that school, I saw how the young juniors acted when no teachers were around,” H said.

It comes after The Advertiser revealed disturbing videos last week of teen boys at Pedare Christian College brawling in a school bathroom.

Principal James Tamblyn told The Advertiser that parents were “informed about the matter and the prompt disciplinary action taken by the college”.

It is understood college Mr Tamblyn sent an email about the incident to parents last week, after being contacted by The Advertiser.

But parents interviewed at the school on Thursday morning said they had been unaware of the fighting.

The incidents, which were “planned without any teachers knowing” would have been stopped if staff had found out, H said.

“If no student spoke out about it, the teachers aren’t able to know,” she said.

In the aftermath of the revelations, the graduate said “students and parents need to take accountability for their own actions”.

“It’s never going to stop if they don’t realise what they’re doing,” she said.

But responsibility to stop those incidents falls short of the school.

The graduate called for social media and parents to take more responsibility.

“I don’t think the school can do much about it,” she said.

“I think it’s stemming from social media as all over the media there’s fights and all the games are violent.

“It’s constantly being shown.”
