Senator Pauline Hanson will push for a ban on foreign ownership of residential property and cap immigration at 100,000 people a year in order to increase the supply of housing.

Arriving in Adelaide on Wednesday evening, the One Nation leader issued a press release outlining some of her policies.

Senator Hanson said Australia should implement ownership restrictions similar to those in New Zealand and Canada to help fix the “growing national housing crisis”.

“Many countries don’t allow foreign ownership of land or housing, but it’s open slather for foreign investors in Australia’s overheated residential property market,” she said.

Under her proposal, foreign owners would be given a 12-month grace period to sell residential property.

Senator Hanson said, from 2023, the government will bring in 213,000 immigrants a year.

“We’re struggling – and failing – to secure accommodation for people already living in Australia but the government is only adding to the problem with these huge numbers,” she said.

One Nation looks likely to win a seat in the state’s upper house and will run several candidates in the coming federal election.

Senator Hanson was expected to meet voters in the northern suburbs on Thursday.
