Pasadena man fined, accrues nine demerit points for extreme public holiday speeding near Adelaide Airport

An Adelaide man travelling 50km/h over the speed limit has been hit with a massive fine on Anzac Day.

A Pasadena man has racked up nine demerit points for driving 50km/h over the speed limit on a busy Adelaide road on Anzac Day.

The 32-year-old driver was stopped by police on Tapleys Hill Rd, Adelaide Airport for driving 110km/h in a 60km/h zone.

Anyone driving 45km/h or more over the signed speed limit would receive nine demerit points, an SA Police spokeswoman said.

The driver of the white Toyota Kluger was issued a $1997 fine and an immediate loss of licence for a six-month period.

“He was late for his flight,” said one Facebook commenter on Anzac Day.

The speed limit on Tapleys Hill Rd was reduced from 80 to 60km/h in May last year to improve driver and pedestrian safety on the busy thoroughfare.

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport and RAA conducted a review into the speed limit along a 3km section of Tapleys Hill Rd between Sir Donald Bradman Drive and Africaine Rd following concerns raised by the local community.
