A neighbour has told how he rushed to help a teenager who died after a buggy rolled in the Adelaide Hills on Saturday night.
Two 16-year-old boys were in the vehicle when the incident happened on Pitt Rd at Paracombe about 9pm on Saturday night.
The passenger, from Modbury Heights, died at the scene, while the driver, from Paracombe, was taken to hospital for observation.
Rohan Gilmour arrived at the scene before paramedics and did his best to help.
“We lifted (the buggy) off, put him into a recovery position and tried to do the best for him and basically, very soon after that, the ambulance officers arrived,” he told reporters on Sunday.
“Credit to them for getting here so quick.”
Mr Gilmour said it “wasn’t a good night for the community”.
“(It’s a) sad fact that a young fella has lost his life, after having a day of fun with his friends,” he said.
“It’s really hard when you know the families ... it’s just so hard.”
On Sunday morning, the scene had been cleared but marks tracking the path of the vehicle could be seen on the road.
Other neighbours said several people in the area owned similar buggies and rode them on private property.
They were unaware of the circumstances of the crash but hoped the incident would highlight the importance of safety precautions.
Major Crash Investigators attended the scene and investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident. No charges have been laid.
The boy’s death is the 13th life lost on SA roads this year, compared to 18 at the same time last year.
