One Nation leader Pauline Hanson says South Australia’s star recruit Sarah Game quit her party amid fears her mother would “stop looking after her children”.

Senator Hanson dropped the bombshell claim after Ms Game sensationally quit Pauline Hanson’s One Nation after her mother Jennifer Game was refused the top ticket spot in the next state election.

Senator Hanson said Sarah Game expressed fears Jennifer Game would “stop looking after her children if she wasn’t preselected” in SA.

“I told her One Nation is a political party not a childcare centre,” Senator Hanson said.

“For goodness sake, the woman is paid around $200,000 a year. You’d think she could afford childcare instead of holding One Nation and its supporters to ransom.”

State upper house MLC Sarah Game’s shock split from One Nation came after her mother Jennifer Game quit the party when she failed to win preselection.

“Jennifer was angry with me because I wouldn’t support her top of the ticket but she already had three shots, two federally and one state,” Senator Hanson said.

Senator Hanson vowed to campaign strongly in SA in the lead up to next year’s March state election after the party saw gains in nine out of 10 seats in the recent federal election.

“I’m not going to sugar-coat the way I feel. I’m deeply upset, I’m hurt and I’m angry by Sarah’s sudden decision to leave One Nation,” she said.

“I had always held Sarah in high regard, but those feelings are gone following her fabricated motive for turning her back on the party.”

When Ms Game won her eight-year spot in the upper house at the last state election it was after a last-minute swap with Jennifer Game, who decided instead to pursue a federal seat.

“Sarah had done no campaigning, nothing, it was the brand, it had nothing to do with Sarah, it was my name and the people who

backed me and the hard work we did (that won her the seat),” Senator Hanson said.

Sarah Game named the key reason for quitting the party this week was the One Nation brand including a “racism stigma” hampering project work around men’s health, veterans and disadvantaged children.

Senator Hanson dismissed the claim saying candidates with a range of cultural backgrounds stood for One Nation.

But Ms Game also said on Friday that it was difficult caring for three children as primary carer and she had raised fears about One Nation not supporting her mother leading to Jennifer Game quitting the party.

“I did express that without Mum having a reason to be here that she might actually leave and go back to Sydney and that would put me in a really difficult position,” she said.

“I’m a primary carer and primary breadwinner in my family.”

Ms Game has three children aged 10, nine and seven years, and said it was “a real juggle for me, I have three kids I don’t have a lot of support with anyone to help me”.
