A car on the O-Bahn track has been removed and normal services resumed around 7:50am on Wednesday.

Police were called to the O-Bahn track at Modbury about 3am with reports a car had driven on to the track.

Senior constable Peta Squire told ABC radio that delays were expected, affecting services between Tea Tree Plaza and Modbury.

“The car needs to be removed by a crane from the track,” she said.

“If you are planning to take the O-Bahn, you may need to seek alternative transport until the car has been removed.

“All those commuters coming from Tea Tree Plaza and Paradise please look for some alternative arrangements.

However, the Department of Infrastructure and Transport confirmed services have been resumed.

She said the driver of the car had suffered a medical episode and was taken to hospital where he was being treated.

Official statistics from 2023 compiled over the past decade show cars have driven onto Adelaide’s O-Bahn busway at a rate of just over three a year.

The transport department figures revealed cars, and other unauthorised vehicles, had ended up on the O-Bahn track on 33 occasions since 2013.

There were five incidents each year in 2013, 2018 and 2019.

Before this morning, the last time a car wound up on the O-Bahn was in October 2023, when a vehicle was abandoned on the track in Modbury.
