An Adelaide council has changed its street parking policy, enforcing time limits on ratepayers who hold both residential and visitor permits.
New changes by the Norwood, Payneham and St Peters Council, will give people who hold residential permits, seven days of parking on their street, before their cars have to be moved.
Also under the new system, people using a visitors’ permit will be given six hours of parking before they have to move their cars, with the changes coming into effect from July 1.
General manager of Urban Planning and Environment at the council, Carlos Buzzetti told FIVEaa radio on Tuesday that the policy change would “ensure fair and reasonable access” to all people.
Currently, residents who live in areas where there is a high-demand for parking in the council zone, can access up to two residential parking permits and two visitor permits
Mr Buzzetti said the new rules for visitor permits would only be enforced during certain hours and not on weekends.
