Norwood Morialta High School redevelopment

Construction to redevelop Norwood Morialta High School, a project supporting 750 jobs, is well under way.

The $52m project is the largest upgrade of an existing school in the State Government’s $1.3bn school building program.

It involves consolidating the Rostrevor and Magill campuses of the school onto its Parade site.

“This upgrade at Norwood Morialta High School will bring all year levels on to one campus by 2022, providing state-of-the-art facilities for students and dramatically lifting the capacity of this school to 1700 students,” Premier Steven Marshall said during a visit to the school.

Overall, numbers will increase by about 200 with the consolidation meaning nearly 1000 more students will be on the Parade campus.

The project includes a new three-storey middle school building with a roof top space – with new images of the building published on Monday by the Education Department.

There also will be a new two-storey building for technical and specialist studies, refurbishment and extension of the existing gym, a new street-facing entry, landscaping, car parks and new sports courts.

“We know that there is a growing demand on schools in the eastern suburbs of Adelaide, and the upgrade of Norwood Morialta High School is a critical part of increasing the enrolment capacity for public education in the area,” Education Minister John Gardner said.

“The concept images for this development showcase a world class upgrade to the school’s facilities, and the local community will be eager to see work progress rapidly in the coming months.”

Student Olivia said the school community was looking forward to the consolidation.

“The younger students will be able to have older role models and we’ll be more connected as a whole,” she said.
