A classy hotel

“A hotel would add a touch of class as well as a cinema and shops. North Adelaide needs to lead Adelaide into the 21st century by modernising O’Connell street and make it a drawcard for tourists in Adelaide.”
-Sam

Museum of broken dreams

“I would like to see it developed into a museum of artist’s impressions, given the site’s rich history of proposals that never got off the ground.”
-Mr Snub

If you love artist’s impressions, you’ll love Mr Snub’s idea for a Museum of all the failed concepts for the old Le Cornu site on O’Connell St.

Give the project to someone else

“Not by the council... They’ll only bugger it up.”

Vegas-style hotel

“A Las Vegas-style over-the-top luxury and themed hotel and shopping precinct but with class. Somewhere to go when you want the very best champagne or scotch, the very best service and only walking distance to the very best yiros.”

Aquarium

“Perfect spot and it would attract both locals and tourists!”

Build a hotel

“I think the Sheraton Hotel would be fantastic for the site. I really hope they take up the HOA with Sheraton as they are keen to get this up. This would bring more tourism $$$ to the state, which would be great for the local businesses who have suffered far too long! Overall the proposed Makris plan/development would be great. Just happy to see this site now Unlocked! Great News. Let’s just hope Council/joint-venture partners make good use of it.”
-JC

Housing, public gardens

“To add to the vibrancy and life in North Adelaide I think the site should be developed as a combination of retail residential and garden areas. The site is large enough to accommodate those three ingredients. As a rate payer in North Adelaide for over 30 years it would just be great to see something innovative developed in the space.”

-Paul

Footy park

“Either paid parking for the football or a five-star hotel.”

Keep it green

“A nice parkland.”

A place to play and grow

“Into a park or community area including playgrounds, skate park, basketball and tennis court, community garden, BBQ facilities and other general facilities for local residents. Having highrise apartments or houses will congest the area causing the O’Connell Street atmosphere to fade.”

Food trucks park

“A permanent spot for food trucks and bars a la The Hamlet in Canberra. Heaps of bricks and mortar venues thrive on the same block despite the competition.”
-Angus

Keep calm and get on with it.

“Given it has been vacant for so long, return it to the people. Create a calm parkland that families can enjoy for BBQs and the like. Ensure it is lit and night with CCTV so that it doesn’t attract a bad crowd. Would help generate business for the local traders rather than potentially take business away if new shops are built. Surely this would also appease our beloved North Adelaide residents also.

Build IT and they will come

“A IT microhub with functions, networking spaces and small cafes.”

Short-term housing

“It would be nice to see it redevelop as short term housing (12-24 months) for kids/young adults from the country. This would provide them with the opportunity to move to adelaide to either study or find a job and be more independent. This would also give them a chance from more opportunities that the country doesn’t provide.”

Build a Crows nest

“Adelaide Crows to build a central home base including bars, restaurant, bistro, gaming, TAB & function rooms I hope you’re reading this Mr Andrew Fagan, it’s the one thing this club desperately needs, a central base to call home! The Alma is not our base!
