Noarlunga Downs man to face court following aggravated robbery involving a knife at Colonnades Shopping Centre

A man has allegedly threatened security guards with a knife while trying to flee after a robbery at a popular southern suburbs shopping centre.

A 25-year-old Noarlunga Downs man will front court on Thursday after allegedly stealing a pair of sunglasses from a store and threatening security guards with a knife.

Police were called to Colonnades Shopping Centre just after 1.30pm on Tuesday following reports of the incident, in which fortunately no one was injured.

Police were unable to find the suspect at the time but an investigation and a short foot chase led Southern District CIB detectives to an arrest on Wednesday.

The man was charged with aggravated robbery, unlawfully on premises and carry offensive weapon.

He was refused police bail and will appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on Thursday.

“It will be alleged that during a search of a nearby home, the stolen sunglasses, knife and clothing worn during the robbery were located and seized by police,” police said.

A 25-year-old man will face court over allegedly stealing sunglasses and threatening security with a knife.

In a separate incident on Tuesday, a 23-year-old Paralowie man allegedly stole a carton of beer from a drive-through bottle shop area of a hotel at the Castle Plaza shopping centre and threatened staff members with a knife before fleeing the scene.

No one was injured in the incident.

Patrols searched the area and shortly after found the suspect at a nearby house.

The man was charged with aggravated robbery and refused bail. He was due to appear in court on Wednesday.
