A Bunnings Warehouse in the southern suburbs is set to relocate to be part of a local retail hub with expanded space.
The Noarlunga Bunnings will close in early 2024, with the new branch opening in Colonnades Centre.
Bunnings Regional Manager, Tom Miller, exclusively told The Advertiser: “The proposed new store … will feature an additional 1400sq m of retail space, a much-improved five-lane drive-through timberyard, as well as an additional 60 car spaces.”
He added: “The existing Noarlunga team will transfer to the new store, as well as the creation of around 20 new local jobs.
“Works have commenced at the new site to convert the vacant building into a Bunnings Warehouse, which is expected to open in the first half of 2024.”
Mr Miller said the current location will continue to operate until the new location is ready to open.
The confirmation comes after locals began speculating on social media Costco was moving into the site.
One user commented, “Costco is moving into the old Bunnings building. Get excited peeps.”
A second agreed, commenting “If you look at the potential of the current Bunnings site being a Costco, there is land both behind Bunnings and Officeworks to accommodate a larger carpark and potential petrol station.”
A third rejected the idea and said: “I would be pretty sure if a Costco was definitely being built down south there would be a decent announcement because of all the jobs it would be creating. Not just some Bunnings shelf stackers were told’.”
It comes as Costco announced earlier this year their next expansion would be in the south of Adelaide – but a date and location had yet to be confirmed.
Managing director of Costco, Patrick Noone, did not deny the rumours about the potential new site and said the brand was interested in the area.
“Our focus is to find the right location to meet our specifications,” Mr Noone said.
“Our warehouses are quite sizeable in order to be able to house our large range of goods and specialty department services.
“We also look for lots that can house our fuel stations and sizeable carparks as well.”
