After an 18-month journey with sobriety and a recent divorce, Olivia Molly Rogers has spent a lot of time reflecting.
The former Miss Universe Australia says she won’t date footballers, wants her next partner to have no ego and has limited herself to a couple of drinks here and there.
“I’ve learnt a lot about myself,” Adelaide-born Rogers said.
Rogers spilt from husband Justin McKeone after only seven months of marriage in September.
But despite briefly dating a footballer in her 20s while living in Adelaide, Rogers has ruled out dating any AFL players.
“I just don’t want egos, I just want a nice genuine person,” Rogers told the Herald Sun.
“I’m sure there are some good eggs in there (football) but as a whole, I just don’t really want someone with a profile.
“It probably sounds like a double standard but I just don’t want someone who wants me for the wrong reasons. If they think I’m going to make them look better. I just want a nice guy and it’s what I look for in my friends, someone with good morals.”
Rogers, who went sober for 15 months following a 30-day dry month, has completely changed her relationship with alcohol after struggling with binge drinking, she told Dan Murphys’ blog Dan’s Daily in an interview.
“About two weeks in, I realised it felt pretty good to not drink,” she said.
After over a year sober, she decided a few drinks, here and there, would be fine.
“I used to binge drink and felt like I had to have a drink in my hand to be confident at social events,” she said.
The mental health advocate recently stepped out to celebrate the reveal of the official Ralph Lauren Australian Open 2023 uniforms and commemorative towels, and she said she is happier than ever.
She and ex-husband McKeone recently sold their Glen Iris home in Melbourne, with Rogers saying she is “so relieved” to have settled before Christmas.
“I’m the happiest I’ve been in a long time.
“I think next year is going to be a really good year. All my friends have been amazing. Having them over for a house warming was really fun and a lot of them have said you’re the happiest you’ve been in a long time.”
Rogers will be heading back to South Australia for Christmas, spending the festive season with family in Adelaide before heading to South Africa for a wedding.
With plans to attend Paris Fashion Week with her stylist Paul Versace from Styled by Bloom, Rogers has a lot to look forward to.
“The shift, it’s very different to where I saw myself. I feel this huge wave of support of people behind me. Of course there’s still negative feedback too but predominantly people have been really supportive and people want to know what happened.
“When I’m ready, I’ll say more.”
