New shadow cabinet expected as Libs meet on Monday

A week after he took the Liberal Party leadership, Vincent Tarzia has still not announced his shadow cabinet. But that could change this week.

‘We will win the next election’: Vincent Tarzia's bold start

New Liberal leader Vincent Tarzia will unveil his shadow cabinet early this week, with “fresh faces’’ expected to be included in the new-look line-up.

Mr Tarzia succeeded David Speirs in the top job last week and is yet to confirm the shake-up or whether his predecessor would be included on the frontbench.

Mr Tarzia would not confirm any changes Sunday but said he had been “working closely with all my colleagues to make sure we have the right people in right positions across our shadow cabinet’’.

One MP said he was expecting more information at a shadow cabinet meeting on Monday.

There has been speculation that Mr Speirs could take Matt Cowdrey’s role as Treasury spokesman but one observer said it would be better for the party if “he took a break and see what the future holds’’.

“Vincent is being very consultative,’’ the source said.

“It’s a good opportunity for a reset in the party and an opportunity to get some fresh faces in.’’

Names tipped for promotion include the right-aligned legislative councillors Ben Hood and Laura Henderson.
