A new multimillion-dollar community hub is set to be built in Adelaide’s western suburbs after the closure of a library.
The Henley Library at Henley Beach has closed to prepare for the construction of Ngutungka Henley – a combined library and community hub which is set to be completed by the end of 2024.
Located at 378 Seaview Rd, Henley Beach, Ngutungka Henley will feature a library collection, spaces to sit and study, a dedicated children’s area, spaces to hire – including a kitchen – and an undercover outdoor area.
“We are grateful to our community for their invaluable input and ideas,” Charles Sturt council Mayor Angela Evans said.
“Ngutungka Henley … has been designed to meet the needs of both the present and the future. We are delighted to have incorporated the heritage-listed Henley Town Hall into the project too, preserving its historical significance.”
Construction is set to begin in November/December of this year with the facility opening in late 2024.
Ngutungka is Kaurna for “place of knowledge”.
The hub will be the second purpose-built community facility in Charles Sturt’s council area following the completion of Ngutungka West Lakes in 2022.
