New Catholic primary school to be built in Hove by 2020

A NEW Catholic primary school in Hove will cater for 530 students from Reception to Year 6 with a planned early learning centre for three to five-year-olds.

THE new Catholic primary school in Hove will cater for 530 students from Reception to Year 6 with a planned early learning centre for three to five-year-olds.

The school which will be opened in 2020 will be called McAuley Community School, will have a specialist STEM and arts facilities.

It will be built on the former site of Marymount College which merged which Sacred Heart College, forming a coeducational school as part of a $15 million restructure of the Catholic system in the southwest suburbs.

Students from St Teresa’s School at Brighton will transition to the new McAuley Community School and be part of the foundation enrolments in 2020.

Catholic Education SA director Dr Neil McGoran said the new primary school and the early learning centre are part of the Catholic Education pathway from early years through to Year 12.

The school’s name respects the commitment of the Sisters of Mercy, founded by Catherine McAuley, to education and the community in the Brighton Parish for more than 102

years.
