New bus park ’n’ ride at Crafers to double parking spaces

A new bus Park n’ Ride at Crafers will create more than double the number of parking spaces under a plan for the Hills.

The new Crafers Park ‘n’ Ride facility will be on the city-bound side, just between the freeway and the Crafers off-ramp.

The state government is encouraging Adelaide Hills residents to use their cars to get into the city less by committing almost $20 million to upgrading Park ‘n’ Ride facilities.

As part of the expansion, the closest Park ‘n’ Ride to the city at Crafers – which currently has space for just a few dozen cars – is set to receive the first upgrade with $6m going towards building 85 new carparking spaces, including two accessible bays and motorcycle parking.

Transport Minister Tom Koutsantonis said it was important to continue investment in the region.

“The Adelaide Hills are a great place to live, and increasing options for people to commute provides benefits both locally and more broadly,” he said.

“We want to continue investing in infrastructure that encourages public transport use, and this extensive expansion of the Crafers Park ‘n’ Ride will help do just that.

“Park ‘n’ Ride sites are an extremely important part of our public transport network, as they give people a safe, secure and convenient access point to catch a bus to their destination,” he said.

Park ‘n’ Ride facilities offer customers a place to park their car or bike, and transfer to public transport to complete their journey.

The aim of the upgrade is to increase Park ‘n’ Ride capacity and amenity, improve safety and security and maintain access to the existing bus stops and parking.

Upgrades to be built to the southeast of the existing Crafers Park ‘n’ Ride, next to the Crafers off ramp (westbound) and the South-Eastern Freeway.
