A fish as heavy as two grown men has been reeled in by a fishing enthusiast in the waters off Port Lincoln.
Shane Hodgens, owner of Tackle World Port Lincoln, caught the 133kg bluefin tuna after an early morning departure from Billy Lights Point boat ramp in Port Lincoln.
“We don’t get that many opportunities for those real big ones in Port Lincoln,” Mr Hodgens said.
“I’d never caught one that big.
“I’ve caught lots of tuna but never one that size … (we) didn’t really know exactly what to expect.”
The massive bluefin tuna weighed 133kg and took more than an hour and a half to wrestle onto the boat.
“We couldn’t believe it, couldn’t believe the size of it” the tackle store owner said.
“That's fishing, that's what keeps bringing you back.”
The fish was forklifted from the boat and brought back to the shop to be cleaned and filleted.
The fillets were shared with more than 12 local families to enjoy until the summer tuna season comes around.
“You couldn’t eat all that yourself, it’s way too much to feed one family.” Mr Hodgens said.
