NEW response audio from the cold case parcel bomb killing of National Crime Authority policeman Geoffrey Bowen has been released by SAPOL.
The Wednesday, 2, 1994 audio, which has not been released to the public before now, says in part:
“Corner of the Topham carpark, there has been a blast ... has showered out all over the pavement ... um ... probably injuries, I don’t have any other details as yet. Unknown what’s the cause.”
That cause was later determined by then State Coroner Wayne Chivell to be a letter bomb sent to the NCA office by Domenic Perre — whom Det-Sgt Bowen had played a role in investigating over a drugs matter.
Peter Wallis, a lawyer employed by the NCA, was also seriously injured.
Earlier Mr Perre, who has always maintained he is innocent of the crime, was arrested and charged with murder but the charges were later withdrawn by prosecutors before it went to trial.
SA’s then-Director of Public Prosecutions, Paul Rofe, said “on all the evidence ... there was not a reasonable prospect of conviction”.
The bomb was collected as a package from the post office by security staff and exploded in the offices of the NCA, at the CPS Credit Union Building on Waymouth St.
Mr Bowen’s widow, Jane Sutton-Bowen, has demanded pleaded for justice over the killing and pleaded with the State Government to allow a criminal prosecution to be taken to trial.
