A dead kangaroo has been discarded outside of a Park Holme mosque in an incident that has been described as a “form of symbolic aggression” by the Muslim community.
Footage obtained by 7NEWS shows a hooded individual crossing Marion Rd with a kangaroo inside a wheelbarrow.
The individual then dumps the kangaroo by a tree in front of the Marion Mosque and leaves.
In a Facebook post, The Islamic Society of South Australia said this “appears to be a form of symbolic aggression or harassment, targeting the Muslim community with the intent to provoke fear, anger or unease”.
“The use of a dead animal and the choice of a place of worship is a deeply disrespectful and an Islamophobic motive.
“The deliberate nature of this incident makes it particularly unsettling.”
The organisation has described the act as “bizarre and deeply disturbing”.
Police are investigating the incident.
Last October, mosques around Adelaide were targeted in a series of fire attacks.
These included two separate fires on Marion Road near the Marion mosque.
