Some of Australia’s rock royalty have shared tributes to the Adelaide born manager.

Members of the Hoodoo Gurus, a band Mr Mazzone managed, posted a tribute on social media saying the group were “utterly devastated at the sudden loss of their dear friend”.

“It is impossible to convey the shock and grief we are feeling right now,” the statement read.

“We have already shed many tears and there will be many more to come, but our loss is nothing compared to the one that has been dealt to Mick’s close family and friends … our hearts go out to them.”

Jimmy Barnes described Mr Mazzone as “one of the hardest working figures in the music business” adding: “You will be sadly missed in our business. You were always smiling, always helpful, you lit up the roommate. Sending love and thoughts to your family from the Barnes clan”.

Ian Moss expressed his “shock and sadness” at the news saying Mr Mazzone had managed him “through the transition from Cold Chisel to solo artist”.

Members of The Radiators also spoke about Mr Mazzone’s guiding influence on their careers saying: “Mick holds a special place in our hearts and we will forever be grateful for his time spent guiding and mentoring the Rads when we were at a low point in our career”.

Receiving an Order of Australia in 2018 for service to both the music industry and the community, Mr Mazzone is also being remembered for his generosity – especially through his charitable work as a trustee of the Golden Stave foundation, which has raised more than $15 million for children’s causes through harnessing the power of the music and entertainment industry.

The son of Italian parents, Mr Mazzone grew up in Torrensville Adelaide.

He played in various bands around Adelaide and completed an apprenticeship at a scales company before moving to Sydney in 1982 – to pursue his passion within the music industry.

He began his career in Sydney as an audio engineer and tour manager for bands such as Don McLean, Midnight Oil, Madness and Sunnyboys.

In 1989 he established Mighty Management. He would later establish a record label, M Records.

Mr Mazzone was also a founding member of the Australian Music Managers Forum.
