A mother who was filmed with an unrestrained three-year-old on her lap controlling the wheel of a car in Elizabeth South has apologised for her actions.
The video emerged on social media in recent days of a man filming the irresponsible act.
In one part of the video, the couple laugh, before the woman asks: “do you want to do skids?”
When approached by 9 News about the incident, the mother who did not wish to be identified, was remorseful over her actions.
“I remember when I was a little kid and I really wanted to see what it was like in the driver’s seat,” she told 9 News.
“And I just thought, you know, my daughter might like it.
“I know it was a really bad thing for me to do … it was a once off thing and I feel like an idiot for doing it so I apologise to everyone.”
SA Police said all children aged seven years and under must be seated in an approved child restraint.
“Failure to do could result in the driver of the vehicle being issued a $497 fine and accrue three demerit points,” a spokesperson said.
“Police implore that all drivers travelling with small children, to make sure they are secured in their seats/carriers with seatbelts at all times regardless of distance travelled.”
