A second McDonald’s restaurant is under construction at Mount Barker in the Adelaide Hills, with the regional city expanding rapidly as one of the fastest growing areas in the state.
The fast food restaurant will be built at Mount Barker South and is expected to create more than 220 jobs for local construction workers and restaurant employees, injecting about $6.9 million into the local economy.
Licensee, Matthew Rogers, who also owns and operates six existing McDonald’s restaurants across Adelaide, employing more than 820 people, said he was excited to bring more jobs to the area.
“We are excited to start construction on a new restaurant in Mount Barker and create 100 construction jobs, as well as a further 120 operational jobs once the restaurant opens,” he said.
“McDonald’s Mount Barker South is committed to playing an active role in the local community through providing jobs, training and development opportunities, as well as supporting local causes and groups that are important to our customers and people.
“We look forward to serving up our great tasting, great quality menu once the restaurant opens later this year.”
McDonald's Australia is set to open 100 new restaurants and remodel half of its existing restaurants by the end of 2025, investing more than $1 billion to create over 40,000 new jobs.
The Mount Barker South franchise will be built next to Woolworths on Wellington Road, and will see the Heysen Tavern, a second KFC and the town’s fourth OTR built on the opposite side of the road.
The Heysen Tavern on the opposite side will be the first new pub in the regional city in more than 150 years.
Meanwhile, the McDonald’s will be fitted with modern décor and feature a dual lane drive thru, dedicated partner delivery room, McCafé and PlayPlace for customers to enjoy.
The store will also be equipped with solar panels, a heat recovery water system and LED lighting, helping to reduce emissions and energy use in the restaurant.
It will also feature wheel stops containing recycled materials in the car park.
Completion of the fast-food restaurant s is expected in the second quarter of 2025.
Mount Barker currently has a population of 22.000 thousand, and is forecast to hit a population of 64,838 by 2046.
