A Yorke Peninsula man has been left “shaking like a leaf” after a $4.8 million Lotto windfall, just days after another SA man pocketed a whopping $150 million in a Powerball win.
The Moonta man, who declined to reveal his identity, took home the multimillion-dollar prize in Saturday’s Set for Life draw, scoring $20,000 a month for the next 20 years.
The winning ticket was purchased from Newbery Chemist at Kadina and was the only division one winning entry.
After learning of his almost $5m winnings, the man said he would look at buying a new car and helping out his children and grandchildren.
A spokesperson from The Lott said the man was “shaking” when he received the news.
“You’re kidding me? You beauty!” he said during his winning phone call.
“I have plenty of children and grandchildren so this will go to great use.”
The win comes after a “middle-aged” Adelaide man took home $150m in the country’s biggest individual Powerball win, with a ticket purchased from the OTR Salisbury Drive Thru.
Despite scooping the epic funds, he said he planned on keeping his feet on the ground – even showing up to work on Monday – but would splurge on a new house and overseas travel.
“I’ll buy a house, want to travel the world and I’ve got a family and friends I want to help, but for now I can’t wrap my head around how big this prize is. This is life changing,” he said.
“I can’t stop smiling and pinching myself.
“I’ve never screamed so loud or jumped so high.”
Locals in Salisbury, which is considered one of the state’s battler suburbs in Adelaide’s north, celebrated the unlikely win in the nationwide draw.
It caps a remarkable history for the Salisbury Council area with major lottery wins, after two major jackpots recently drawn at adjacent Mawson Lakes.
