A tender moment between new mum chimpanzee Zombi and her baby girl has been captured on video after she gave birth at Monarto Zoo.
The third-time mum gave birth on Sunday night, marking the second chimp to be born at the zoo this year.
The video shows Zombi kissing and cuddling the new baby, while another chimp watches on.
Zoo keeper Hayley Lewis said she and her colleagues couldn’t be happier.
“Zombi is a truly amazing chimp, she’s head female of our troop, a superstar mum to seven-year-old Zuri and four-year-old Enzi, and she’s doing a wonderful job of caring for her newest addition.”
Monarto recently welcomed a zebra foal to its wild family, while two giraffe calves also are expected soon at the open range zoo.
