An investigation into complaints about medication management and other concerns at disability provider Minda is expected to be finalised within weeks.
The Human Services Department is investigating concerns raised by the family of a Minda client.
Minda has also confirmed that police and departmental officials investigated an alleged “incident” involving that client and another client in 2016.
It says that investigation was “closed without action” in July 2017 “due to a lack of any substantiating evidence or an ability to confirm an offence had been committed”.
In a statement, Minda says the current investigation “makes no reference to any alleged sexual assault”.
It does cover concerns about medication management, misplaced personal items and support given to a client with “complex health needs and challenging behaviour”, Minda says.
“The basis of complaints raised by the client’s family are wide-ranging,” the statement says.
Minda says it is “fully co-operating with” the departmental investigation which is expected to “conclude in coming weeks”.
Human Services Department deputy chief executive Lois Boswell confirmed the department’s incident management unit “is currently looking into client care at Minda, in response to recent concerns raised through notification processes”.
“We will continue to work with Minda until concerns are resolved,” she said.
Ms Boswell said the department had procedures in place “to ensure that any allegation of a criminal offence, including sexual assault, is immediately reported to SA Police”.
