Metropolitan Fire Service unveils new Combination Aerial Pumping Appliance, believed to be world-first

THE Metropolitan Fire Service has unveiled a new truck believed to combine world-first firefighting capabilities.

THE Metropolitan Fire Service has unveiled a new firefighting truck believed to combine world-first firefighting capabilities.

The Combination Aerial Pumping Appliance, also known as CAPA, was commissioned this morning after a three-year design and construction process.

The truck has the ability to combine aerial firefighting and rescues plus the capacity and functionality of a general purpose firefighting appliance.

MFS Commander Peter Mason said the new fire appliance, which cost $1.3 million, would be based at Adelaide Station and enhance the MFS’s ability to protect lives and assets.

“Like many modern cities, Adelaide is seeing an increase in medium density residential, industrial and commercial development of between four and six storeys,” he said.

“Since its arrival, MFS firefighters have undergone a comprehensive training program to ensure they’re familiar with its functionality, to ensure the truck can now become fully operational.”

Emergency Services Minister Tony Piccolo said the appliance had been specially designed in Adelaide.

“The truck has already received much attention from interstate fire services that are interested in learning from its impressive design and capability,” he said.

The new CAPA will replace one of the Metropolitan Fire Service’s ageing Skyjet aerial appliances.
