More than 300 housing lots in Mount Barker are anticipated to come online next year, as Melbourne-based developer Jinding expands into South Australia.

Jinding has acquired a 22ha site at 20-21 Bradfield Lane in one of the state’s fastest growing regions, with capacity for approximately 350 lots.

Jinding general manager of developments Andrew Ashwood said the plan was for a mix of housing options for first homebuyers and downsizers, and larger lots for families.

“Over the next 10 or so years Mount Barker is expected to add another 12,000 or so residents,” Dr Ashwood said.

“New developments are critical in meeting housing needs and delivering essential additional community infrastructure to residents.

“Mount Barker will continue to grow as a satellite city to Adelaide and we are proud to be a part of its evolution.”

The SA land acquisition was one of four regional purchases by Jinding for about $70m.

The three other Victorian sites were at Broadford, outside of Melbourne, another near Warrnambool and one in greater Shepparton.

Jinding chief executive Jay Song said the strategic acquisitions in key growth areas meant they would be positioned to bring lots to market over the next three years.

“Areas like Mount Barker are an increasingly popular choice for homeowners, electing to move outside the capital cities to take advantage of relatively affordable property prices, strong employment prospects and an improved lifestyle,” he said.
