Prominent North Adelaide urologist Dr Diwei Lin has had strict conditions put on his registration by the Medical Board of Australia.

The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) regulator also will seek regular copies of rosters, pay slips and billing information as well as reports from his supervisors.

Restrictions dated October 25 state Dr Lin “must not access the Calvary Hospitals’ iPM system without the written approval of the General Manager of the Calvary Hospitals.”

They limit him to practising in places approved by the Board, which include Royal Adelaide Hospital, Calvary North Adelaide Hospital and consulting rooms on the site, Calvary Adelaide Hospital, Calvary Central Districts Hospital and consulting rooms at 4/51 Stephen Terrace, St Peters.

In addition, he has to provide to the regulator AHPRA acknowledgment that AHPRA may seek regular reports from the director of medical services at each location.

AHPRA may also request from the senior person at each place copies of rosters, pay slips, as well as information where relevant from Medicare, private health insurers and/or billing data.

Dr Lin’s website says he is originally from Singapore and is fluent in Mandarin, and is an Australian-trained urologist “dedicated to providing patient-centred care to men and women with a wide variety of urological issues.”

He began medical training at the University of Adelaide in 2006 and is a fully qualified specialist urological surgeon after completing the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Accredited training program.

In 2020, he spent a year working at St Vincent’s Hospital, Sydney, with a focus on uro-oncology surgery.

He holds a consultant urologist position at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Dr Lin has specialist experience in all aspects of urology and “is able to offer contemporary evidence-based treatments using the latest diagnostic and surgical techniques, individually tailored to a patient’s condition. Treatment approaches include open, laparoscopic, endoscopic, robotic, and laser procedures.”

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Lin is a researcher who has published in international journals and presented at national and international conferences. Since 2012 he has been a clinical lecturer at the University of Adelaide.

His main consulting rooms are at Calvary North Adelaide Hospital.

Dr Lin thanked The Advertiser for making contact asking why the conditions were imposed and if he would fight them, but said: “My legal advice is I should not make any comment, at this time, in relation to conditions imposed by the board.”

Calvary Health Care declined to comment while an AHPRA statement says: “We cannot comment about matters relating to individual practitioners beyond information that is already on the public record, including the register of practitioners.”
