McLaren Vale country singer Juliet Oliver is off to music mecca Tamworth for intensive training
ALL country roads lead to Tamworth for a rising SA music star.
JULIET Oliver has her sights set on the big stage at Tamworth.
The 18-year-old singer from McLaren Vale will return to the country music mecca this week to do two weeks intensive training before rubbing shoulders with her idols.
Ms Oliver won a scholarship to the country music academy at Tamworth at age 15.
She has now been sponsored by all the country music clubs around SA to get her foot in the door of the industry.
“The Tamworth Country Music Festival runs for two weeks, but two weeks prior we go to the academy,” she said.
“That’s just in-house, intense course about everything country music.
“In SA we’re quite lucky because we…are very supportive of young country music artists.”
In high school, Ms Oliver struggled with the classical side of singing until she met a guitar teacher who specialised in country music.
“I love how it’s just about life and it’s so relatable to everybody,” she said.
Ms Oliver practises every day and has spent the summer performing at her parents’ business, the Coorong Cafe on Hindmarsh Island.
The 2017 Tamworth Country Music Festival is held from January 20-29.
