NEXT year’s Clipsal 500 after race entertainment may be less rock and roll than previous years but with Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas confirmed to headline, it will certainly have hearts racing.
Following on from KISS and Motley Crue in 2013, dance act Empire of the Sun last year and Aussie rockers Cold Chisel earlier this year, the Grammy Award winner Rob Thomas will headline the new entertainment program at next year’s Clipsal 500 Adelaide, March 3-6.
The pop-rock singer who spends his time between Matchbox Twenty, his solo work, and various collaborations with artists such as like Santana, Mick Jagger and Willie Nelson, has sold over 80 million albums worldwide. Next year also marks the 20-year anniversary of Matchbox’s Twenty’s hugely successful debut album Yourself or Someone Like You which ranks in Australia’s Top 40 highest selling albums.
Sharing the stage with Thomas at the Sunday after-race concert is Australian blues rock band, The Black Sorrows featuring Vika and Linda Bull and South Australian acts selected by Music SA will open the night.
Saturday night’s entertainment will feature Australian rock band Icehouse and ARIA Hall of Fame inductees, The Church, joining emerging South Australian acts.
A wine bar and gourmet food options will also debut at next years’s event adjacent to the concert oval that features international pop-up food options, mega screen, local wine, and a seated alfresco area.
South Australia’s Tourism Minister Leon Bignell said the entertainment and new areas will be a fantastic addition to Australia’s largest motorsport event.
“It’s really exciting to announce another huge concert line-up featuring a mix of international stars and prestigious Australian music talent, and that’s just Saturday and Sunday night,” he said.
“We’re expecting fans from all over Australia to descend on Adelaide next year to see world-class live performers at the iconic Clipsal 500 Adelaide outdoor concert venue.”
