A gigantic deadly snake has been caught in Myponga, in what the reptile catcher described as an “aggressive” encounter. See the pictures.

Snake handler tackles eastern brown in front yard

Rolly Burrell from Snake Catchers Adelaide was so nervous dealing with a massive eastern brown snake at a Myponga property that he nearly messed his pants.

A Myponga property owner called in the reptile wranglers after finding the venomous snake on their driveway under wheat bags on Saturday.

The family dog was sniffing around the area but thankfully not harmed.

Mr Burrell said the snake was nearly 2m long, a size he hadn’t seen in years.

“It was aggressive, I had trouble getting it into the bag because it was so long,” he said.

“When I was driving home, I felt a bit of a wet patch when I was sitting down so I think I s**t myself.”

A photo of Mr Burrell holding the deadly snake was posted to the Snake Catchers Adelaide social media account which has nearly two thousand likes and nearly one thousand comments.

“Biggest I’ve ever seen what a beauty,” one person commented.

“Crikey! Someone’s been enjoying the high life in a good paddock,” another said.

Mr Burrell has caught and relocated thousands of snakes, but couldn't believe how “fat” the brown snake was.

“If you have a look at the hook, you can see how fat the snake is because all of its stomach’s scrunched up in our hooks so it wasn't supper imposed,” he said.

The snake was relocated to the Myponga dam, about 7km away from where it was found.

Last week The Advertiser revealed highly venomous snakes are on the move in riverside communities with experts warning they could look to seek shelter inside residential properties.

The rising water inundating flood plains is forcing snakes to abandon their habitats along the River Murray and move to higher ground.
