Marine search underway for missing Roxby Downs man, 43, resumes as six other saved from coastal water at Sleaford

Police have resumed their search this morning for the man still missing off the coast of Port Lincoln.

Authorities have confirmed the man who is still missing in waters off Port Lincoln was not a local in the area.

On Saturday morning, SA Police revealed the missing man is a 43-year-old from Roxby Downs – about 620km north of Sleaford where he and six other people found themselves in trouble in the water.

“A 43-year-old Roxby Downs man who was with the group was unable to get to the shore and is currently missing,” SA Police said in a statement.

Emergency services have resumed their search for the man this morning after he and six others became caught in a rip at a beach near Port Lincoln on Friday afternoon.

Emergency services were alerted to the emergency just after 4.10pm.

A man, who was part of the group, has not yet been located.

He was reportedly swimming with a group of six children, who have been rescued from the water, and were receiving treatment from SA Ambulance crews.

A spokesperson for SA Ambulance said four children were taken to the Port Lincoln Hospital to treat mild hypothermia.

The nature of the relationship between the man and the six children has not yet been confirmed by SA Police.

PolAir and a State Emergency Service vessel travelled to the location.

A SES drone would also be used to assist in the search, police said.

The search – by air and on foot – has resumed this morning.
