A pet dog is recovering well after being stabbed during an alleged arson attack in the northern suburbs.
Maremma Powderpuff was stabbed twice during the attack on a Salisbury home on Thursday night, 7 News reported.
Owner Catherine Cook, whose home was targeted in the attack, said Powderpuff was a “beautiful dog”.
“(She) just roams the streets, plays with the kids out here,” Ms Cook told 7 News.
The family pet was reportedly patched up by a paramedic at the scene.
Ms Cook was not home at the time of the attack but said she knew the alleged arsonist.
“He came around bragging about it, telling my mate ‘tell Catherine the house is on fire, sucked in’,” she said.
“He just walked off.”
Ms Cook appeared distraught on camera, saying “you’ve got to have a home when you’ve got kids”.
“That’s life,” she said.
“You sort of cross the bridge and move on.
“I’ll get there.”
Neighbour Lesa Mullen said she knew something was wrong when she saw Powderpuff “just lying there”.
“Normally the dog runs around,” she told 7 News
Vet Jennifer Tsui said Powderpuff was recovering well from the attack.
“She’s a lovely girl, she’s eating really well, she loves chicken,” she said.
“I think she’s recovering well.”
