MAPPED: With fuel prices set to rise ahead of school holidays, check out the 38 cheapest service stations in SA to refuel over the last six months

Fuel prices are set to climb as school holidays kick off in SA. To help you save at the pump, we’ve mapped the 38 consistently cheapest locations to fill up over the last six months.

Petrol prices: How to save at the pump

Unleaded petrol prices are likely to rise in the next few days as school holidays start, prompting fuel-price monitors to warn drivers to fill up now.

The average price for unleaded petrol in Adelaide was 106c a litre on Friday, 1c less than Thursday and well below last week’s peak of 137c/l.

RAA fuel spokesman Mark Borlace said the unleaded petrol price should bottom out over the next three days, with retailers expected to try to spike prices again on Tuesday or Wednesday. It comes as fuel-pricing app MotorMouth has revealed the consistently cheapest retailers across South Australia over the past six months.

Informed Sources manager Nick Ferris said motorists should still use the company’s MotorMouth app to check prices at the time of purchase but a number of petrol stations in Adelaide and regional areas stood out for cheap fuel.

“While the sites in our list had the lowest average prices over the last six months, this did not always mean they were the lowest-priced sites on a given day,’’ he said. “MotorMouth fuel prices are updated every 15 minutes, so motorists can be sure that the prices they see online are the most recent available.”

The MotorMouth app showed most Adelaide petrol stations were selling unleaded petrol at noon on Friday for between 103c/l and 107.9c/l, with some in the northern suburbs even cheaper.

Meanwhile, Adelaide innovator Orren Prunckun has launched an app that he says allows him to predict when Adelaide’s price cycle will bottom out.

The app, called Petrol Price Predictor, tips this to happen in the next three days.

“The algorithm, which is accurate to within a day or two, forecasts today to be the lowest in the current Adelaide petrol price cycle,” he said.

Mr Prunckun identified a gap in the price-app market when he continually played the guessing game of whether to fill up at what looked like a cheap price, or wait until it was even cheaper the next morning.

“It is a risky choice and it used to happen to me all the time,’’ he said. “Will prices jump to $1.32 per litre or will they drop to $1.01?

“For the past four years, I have been using it for myself and informing my family and friends, and it has accurately forecast the low of the petrol price cycle.’’ The app is available as Google Voice Assistant Action for prices in Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth or Brisbane.
