Man who found body in Ross Lagoon near Waikerie speaks out

A local who found a body floating in Ross Lagoon near Waikerie has broken his silence as another community member lends clues to the identity of the dead man.

The local man who found a body floating in Ross Lagoon near Waikerie on Sunday has spoken out.

Ben Schier was with his family checking flood waters when he made the grim discovery.

He told 7NEWS it’s “a tragedy” but hopes finding the man’s body will bring “a family out there some closure”.

Meanwhile, police have approached local resident Peter Miller in the search to identify the man’s body.

Mr Miller explained to 7NEWS police officers attended his residence “thinking it might have been me, it’s not obviously”.

“They said he had a grey beard and grey hair and a walking stick apparently,” he said.

“I’ve got the beard, but haven’t got the walking stick or the grey hair.”

The man’s cause of death remains unknown while authorities await the official report from the coroner.

On Monday, a water search was conducted by a police water operations unit.

The officers appeared to have dredged up clothing from the scene, however it is unclear whether these items are related to the incident.

It is understood, authorities are not searching for any particular items of interest and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
