HE proudly boasted of being a loving dad to his daughters — but his gun-wielding Facebook posts and court papers paint a far more disturbing picture.

Damien Keith Hall, 26, stands accused of kidnapping his family at gunpoint and threatening to shoot his three-year-old before he was gunned down by police on Hindley St late Monday night.

Hall, 26, had repeatedly posted on his Facebook page in recent months about his relationship breakdown with his former partner.

In one post, he used expletives to describe her and claimed he would be taking custody of the three-year-old daughter he allegedly threatened with a gun before he was shot.

Hall faced Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday via phone link from the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where he has been since his arrest on Monday night.

The Advertiser understands he has undergone multiple bouts of surgery for injuries sustained when police officers were forced to shoot him following a lengthy and sometimes high-speed chase.

Prosecution documents allege Hall abducted his pregnant former partner at gunpoint at Cumberland Park just after 9pm Monday.

They accuse him of also forcing the former couple's children — aged three and seven months — into his car.

Hall then allegedly led police on a high-speed chase through the suburbs — tracked by the PolAir helicopter — despite the use of road spikes.

He allegedly drove down North East Rd and into the city, driving through Rundle Mall in a failed effort to escape.

It will be alleged that, when the car was stopped on Hindley St, Hall threatened his daughter with a gun and STAR Group officers fired a single shot.

The woman, who sustained minor injures, and her daughters, who were physically uninjured, were safely removed from the car upon Hall’s arrest.

Hall has yet to plead to one aggravated count of detaining the woman, to commit an indictable offence. He is also charged with aggravated counts of threatening the lives of both her and her neighbour, Ibrahim Sinka, who tried to prevent her gunpoint abduction, as well as endangering the lives of the woman, and of driving while disqualified and driving to escape a police pursuit.

His identity was temporarily suppressed, by court order, on Tuesday “in the interests of justice” because he was unable to instruct counsel following his surgery.

Oliver Koehn, for Hall, said his client had not applied for bail following his arrest and did not intend to seek it.

Police prosecutors asked Magistrate David Whittle to make the suppression order permanent, arguing the children may suffer “hardship and embarrassment”.

Mr Whittle questioned whether either child was old enough to experience such feelings.

He discharged the suppression order and remanded Hall in custody to face court again in February.
