A MAN is on the run after he chased and rammed a small car three times with his ute before threatening its three teenage occupants with a gun.
It is believed the male teenagers were throwing eggs at cars on Main North Rd just prior to the incident.
Witnesses have told how the suspect confronted the scared teens in their car before taking off.
The incident unfolded just after 11.30pm on Monday when the suspect, who was driving a white Toyota Hilux ute, chased a Mazda sedan down Birch Ave, at Salisbury East, ramming the car three times
Police say he then smashed a window and threatened the young occupants with a firearm before stealing their mobile phones and wallets.
One of the victims was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.
The teens rushed to a nearby house for help as soon as their attacker fled.
An occupant of that house, who did not wish to be identified, told The Advertiser she was “petrified” when she heard a commotion outside.
“I just heard some screeching (of tyres) and a car hitting (another car) and then I heard some screaming,” she said.
“Some guy said ‘you messed with the wrong guy’ and was swearing and carrying on.
“I was petrified actually.”
The resident said the man had left when she and her husband went outside to see what had happened.
“(The teens) got out of the car and came over and said ‘this guy just came and chased us and he’s attacked our car...and he’s held a gun to our head, one of them said’,” she said.
“They were scared.”
One couple in the street, who also did not wish to be named, heard a man demanding property from people inside a car.
“I went to the window and I heard one guy yelling at three guys in a black car ‘give me your wallet, give me your keys and give me your phone numbers - I’ll track you down’,” a male resident said.
His partner said she was frightened by what she heard outside.
“You just wouldn’t think that would happen - I mean those kids, in all honesty are silly but to get to that level...there’s just no need,” she said.
Another Birch Ave resident Jeff Manhire, 72, said he was alerted to the incident when he heard a screech of tyres and then a bang.
“I looked through the window and a bloke got out of his car and he was yelling at the people in the black car,” he said.
“(He yelled) ‘you f***** with the wrong bloke’ - He was just repeating it.”
Mr Manhire said he man banged on the car before going back to his own car and then returning again.
“He said ‘what’s your phone number, what’s your phone number, what’s your phone number?’,” he said.
“And they gave it to him and he yelled it out actually...and after he got the phone number he left.”
Manhire said the man sounded agitated but he did not see a gun.
“For an egging, that’s a bit rough isn’t it?” he said.
Police returned to the street this morning to speak with witnesses.
An egg carton and an egg were also laying on a footpath in the street.
Police searched the area for the suspect after the incident.
The ute driver was described as being a caucasian male, wearing a red baseball cap and a grey top.
The registration number of the ute was not obtained.
Police believe the incident was not a random attack and suspect it was linked to the teens throwing eggs at vehicles at cars on Main North Rd.
