A break-in and robbery turned into a roof standoff between one of the suspects and police in Adelaide’s south, with three people arrested on Thursday.

The incident unfolded after a Christies Beach resident woke between 7am and 8am to find her Saxon Street house had been broken into.

Thieves allegedly stole two station wagons – a silver Toyota Fortuner and a blue Subaru Forester – as well as electronics and handbags from the home.

The female victim used GPS to track down one of the cars, which led the search to nearby Ramsgate Avenue, where both vehicles were abandoned.

After searching the area, police arrested two of the suspects, a 26-year-old woman of no fixed address and a 25-year-old Port Lincoln man, just before 11am.

But the third suspect – 22-year-old Birkenhead man – tried to evade police by climbing on to the roof of the Christies Beach Hotel.

MFS had earlier been called to assist officers at the Gulfview Rd hotel on Thursday morning.

Photos supplied to The Advertiser show a man in a black hoodie on the roof of the pub, surrounded by officers.

Police said the group earlier also broke into a vacant room at the hotel.

After negotiating with the man, MFS crews helped get him off the roof and he was taken into police custody just after 12.30pm.

All three will face a number of charges including aggravated serious criminal trespass, theft and illegal use of a motor vehicle.

They are expected to be denied bail and due appear in court on Thursday or Friday.
