Police have made an urgent appeal for witnesses who saw a man riding a bicycle around the time another man was fatally shot in an Adelaide suburb.

Glenn Michael Holton, 41, was shot and left to die Dunorlan Rd, at Edwardstown on Sunday night. The gunman remains at large.

Mr Holton was found lying in the street with a gunshot wound just after 9.15pm.

Paramedics and police swooped on the scene, but the man was unable to be saved and died in hospital a short time later.

Police are searching for anyone who saw a man riding a push bike in the area around the time of the murder.

Detective Inspector Mark McEachern called on the occupants of three vehicles to come forward.

“We have gathered some CCTV that captures three cars … two SUVs and maybe a white hatch … we would like those people to come forward,” he said.

“In particular, whether they have seen not just people in the street but possibly someone riding a push bike in the vicinity of where the deceased was killed.”

He would not confirm whether the person on the push bike was a suspect.

“We’re open minded again in relation to that person on the bicycle and exactly what the person’s role was,” he said.

“We’re concentrating on a lot of associates that kind of live in the general area.”

Mr McEachern said police would again remain at the scene through the night to conduct more inquiries.

Police believe Holton was shot at the scene by someone known to him.

Mr McEachern confirmed the man died from a gunshot wound on Sunday night and that they were treating the death as a homicide. He said the firearm had not been found.

“That’s obviously our greatest concern, locating that firearm, we’ve got to be able to prioritise that as we are now,” he said.

“We don’t believe the attack was random … our suspicion is it was an associate of some sort.”

He said the victim was known to police.

Police seized a white Toyota Camry from a block of units on nearby Weaver St.

“We believe that is connected to the victim and that is currently undergoing forensic examination,” Detective Inspector McEachern said.

The Advertiser can reveal Mr Holton had a two decade history of theft and minor driving matters.

Vijay, a nurse, said he arrived at his home to find paramedics attempting to save Mr Holton in front of his property.

“I held a torch for them while they tried to save him,” he said. “He had a bullet wound in his chest and tattoos all over his body.”

Vijay told 7News he saw a wound on the victim’s chest resembling a “little hole”.

Another resident said he heard shouting and a large bang outside his property.

“I looked out the window then called police, they told me to go over to him, but it was dark.

“When paramedics arrived he was shivering on the ground.”

Judy Russell, 80, lives in one of the units near where the car was located.

She said she had heard someone threaten to produce a firearm on previous occasions.

“I heard one of the guys trying to get people to come out saying, I’ll go get my gun and machete, that will get them out,” she said.

She said there was always trouble in the block.

“There’s people that don’t live here that come through all the time,” she said.

“I call the cops probably at least once a day, sometimes several times a day on weekends.”

She said this could have been stopped.

“I think it’s disgusting that certain people are getting away,” she said.

“I’m sure everyone is now aware of it but for it to take someone to get murdered … for that to happen, it’s ridiculous.”

The road, which has a number of industrial and residential buildings, is cordoned off and remains an active crime scene.

Emergency services were called to Dunorlan Rd just before 9.30pm on Sunday, to find the man with critical injuries.

The 41-year-old was rushed to the Flinders Medical Centre but died a short time later.

Dunorlan Rd is closed to all traffic between Calstock Ave and Waverley Ave.

Neighbour Cheryl McCall said she arrived home at her property on Sunday night to find paramedics performing CPR on the victim in the nearby gutter.

“All I saw was a man with tattoos on his right arm, lying flat on his back trying to be revived by two ambulance people,” she said.

“All of a sudden about four ambulances came in, seven cop cars and the street was completely blocked off.”

She said her neighbour heard commotion a short time earlier.

“She heard screams coming from the street and then heard a loud bang,” she said.

“It’s terrifying.”

Ms McCall said she suspected the man may have been dumped there.

“The way he was lying was strange. He was flat on his back with his legs crossed.”

She said the area was known for drug-related behaviour.

“I had a druggie climb on my roof about seven years ago,” she said.

“There are druggies on this street all the time, we hear noises on this corner often.”

Anyone who saw or heard any disturbance on Dunorlan Rd last night or who has any information that may assist the investigation is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
