Man allegedly assaulted, three Mildura youths arrested after vehicle tracked from Craigmore to Renmark

Police secretly followed a car from Adelaide’s northern suburbs to the Riverland and arrested three young men at a fast-food restaurant after a driver was allegedly assaulted.

A driver was allegedly assaulted before his car was stolen – leading to a marathon 220km covert police operation from the northern suburbs to the Riverland.

Police were called to Candlebark Court at Craigmore after reports a man had been attacked by four men in an alleged carjacking about 5pm.

A short time later police received a report from a member of the public that the allegedly stolen vehicle, a Nissan X-trail, had arrived in Wilkins Rd at Elizabeth Downs, where they saw four people get out of the car and into a Volkswagen Golf.

The member of the public provided the registration number of the Golf and a description of the men to police, and a check revealed the car had been allegedly stolen from a Paralowie home on October 25.

About 8pm, highway patrols spotted the Golf heading east on the Sturt Hwy towards Renmark.

Riverland patrols covertly monitored the Golf until it pulled into a fast-food restaurant on Renmark Ave, where police swooped and arrested three occupants.

A 20-year-old and 18-year-old, both from Mildura were charged with aggravated robbery.

A 19-year-old, also from Mildura, was charged with theft.

They 20-year-old and 18-year-old were refused bail and are set to appear in the Berri Magistrates Court on Friday.

The 19-year-old was bailed to appear in Berry on January 20.

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
