A man has died in a crash on an Adelaide Hills property overnight.

The crash involving the four-wheel utility vehicle – similar to a large quad bike – happened about 9.30pm Sunday on a property on Martin Hill Road at Forreston.

The vehicle crashed into a fence and post, critically injuring the man.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene but the 56-year-old died at the scene.

Two other people on the vehicle at the time of the crash were not injured.

Major Crash Investigators went to the scene to examine the circumstances that led to the crash.

Police are preparing a report for the coroner.

The fatality will not be counted on the road toll, as the crash happened on a private property.

It follows a fatal quad bike crash in the Murray Mallee in September 2019.

A 23-year-old Westbourne Park man died at the scene.
