A 50-year-old woman is the first road fatally of the year after her car veered off an eastern suburbs street and down a steep embankment.

A woman has died after her car crashed down a steep embankment in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs.

Police were called to Orbona St, Rostrevor, about 7.30am on Monday, after reports a Mazda SUV had veered off the road, down a hill and hit a tree. The driver, a 50-year-old woman from Rostrevor, died at the scene.

Major Crash Investigators went to the scene to investigate the circumstances, and the car was towed away.

The woman’s death was the first life lost on South Australian roads this year.

It comes after the deaths of 70 people on our roads in 2022. It was the lowest on record but authorities say it was still 70 too many. Here are their tributes.
