Australian cuisine queen Maggie Beer is recovering in hospital after a fall at her Barossa Valley home.

In a shock announcement on Sunday night, Beer’s family revealed the food icon and television host, 79, had suffered several minor bone fractures and “related” injuries after a recent fall.

After Colin, her husband of 54 years, found the mother-of-two, she was taken to an unidentified hospital where she was recovering on Sunday night as doctors run tests.

While her spokesman said doctors were confident the chef and entrepreneur will make a full recovery, her family said “it may just take a little while”.

As a result, she has apologised after she was forced to cancel a series of public engagements while she recovers.

It is understood no time frame has been given and will be based on doctor’s advice each day.

In a post on her social media, her family wrote: “Just writing to let you know that following a fall at her home, she’s unfortunately suffered a couple of minor bone fractures and related injuries.

“Thankfully Col, her husband, was there and she is now in the excellent hands of her doctors who are confident she will make a full recovery.

“It may just take a little while.”

The celebrated chef recently hosted “Maggie Beer’s Big Mission” on ABC TV, as part of a crusade to improve the quality of food in aged care facilities.

Fans from around the world, including leading chefs, urged her a speedy recovery and best wishes.
