Luxury southern suburbs townhouse owned by former opposition leader David Speirs removed from property market

A luxury southern suburbs townhouse owned by former opposition leader David Speirs has been removed from a real estate website previously listing the property for sale.

David Speirs resigns

A luxury southern suburbs townhouse owned by former opposition leader David Speirs had been up for sale as the white powder scandal was unfolding – but the listing was removed in recent days.

The Kingston Park home, with an estimated value of about $1.65m, was first listed for rent in July before it was put up for sale on September 4, according to property.com.au.

An open inspection for prospective buyers was held on the final weekend in September – but the online real estate listing was last week taken down.

However, a Taarnby Real Estate “for sale” sign remained at the front of the home on Sunday.

The double-storey house, which is about 500m from the beach, has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and two car spaces.

It is part of a block of three townhouses – two of which are currently owned by Mr Speirs. They were completed in 2022.

One of the three is his home, where he was captured on video appearing to snort white powder from his kitchen bench on June 30 this year. It is not that one listed for sale.

Mr Speirs last month acknowledged the footage showed his kitchen but said other people had access to the property while he was overseas in June – “giving rise to the opportunity for someone to obtain footage of my premises”.

He has maintained the video, published exclusively by The Advertiser on September 9, is a deepfake or elaborate hoax.

Mr Speirs took medical leave in the following days, and his Airbnb profile shows he booked accommodation in the Victorian towns of Port Fairy, Lorne and Bright over the subsequent weeks.

Police on Saturday confirmed Mr Speirs was arrested at Berri on September 26, and has been charged with two counts of supplying a controlled substance between August 2 and 3 and on August 9.

He has announced he will quit parliament but vowed he will fight to clear his name of all allegations.

His property portfolio was the subject of significant attention during his time as leader of the state Liberals.

At age 39, he owns 13 properties in different parts of Adelaide and beyond – including five on the same street as the townhouses in Kingston Park.

His other homes are located in Christies Beach, Brighton, Inman Valley, Oaklands Park, Mitcham and Middleton. None of those are currently listed for sale.

Several of the properties are rented to long-term tenants, while three are listed on Airbnb.

Mr Speirs has complied with his obligation to declare his property interests to state parliament.

He and Taarnby Real Estate were contacted for comment.
