A man accused of fleeing from police at high speed also had cannabis in his system when he slammed into the rear of another motorist, court documents reveal.
Luigi Gligora, 47, of Northfield appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
He is yet to enter a plea to a charge of aggravated causing serious harm by dangerous driving relating to a crash on West Tce which seriously injured The Advertiser’s deputy editor Ben Hyde in October last year.
Peter Cannell, prosecuting, told the court Mr Gligora – who had previously been accused of speeding – was now also accused of “a further circumstance of aggravation”.
Court documents reveal the alleged extra aggravating factor related to Mr Gligora having cannabis in his blood at the time of the offence.
At the time of his arrest, police said they attempted to stop a silver Holden utility on Currie St, but as they approached the vehicle the driver sped off south down West Tce.
Mr Gligora allegedly drove off at speed and crashed into the rear of a Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Mr Hyde, who was on his way home from work.
Mr Hyde suffered burns and other serious injuries as a result. Mr Gligora was also injured. Both men were taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
Mr Cannell asked Magistrate Simon Smart for a 10-week adjournment of the case to gather further medical evidence and CCTV footage.
Mr Gligora returns to court in August when he is expected to enter a plea.
