VOTERS in Boothby and Barker have unleashed on their Liberal MPs for signing a petition to bring on last week’s federal leadership challenge.
Barker MP Tony Pasin and Boothby MP Nicolle Flint have been subjected to online tirades for backing Queensland conservative Peter Dutton.
Mr Pasin on his Facebook page advertised a community event at the Riverland town of Glossop to “ensure local voices are heard in Canberra”.
But voters hit back, accusing him of showing his “true colours” to help “backstab our PM” and “destroy your own party and government”.
“You have undone a great deal of work by being disloyal,” one South Australian wrote.
It is understood his electoral office has also received complaints via email.
A few people congratulated Mr Pasin and Ms Flint for their conservatism, while others sought an explanation for their actions.
The majority, however, condemned the two members’ motives after images of the signed petition revealed their support for a partyroom meeting on Friday.
Ms Flint, who holds the marginal seat of Boothby, could face a serious battle at the next election with many voters stating she has lost their vote, some going as far as saying they “will never vote Liberal again”.
Ms Flint on Friday posted on her Facebook page, stating that “no matter what is happening in Canberra I will always work hard to deliver for our community”.
It received more than 200 comments including: “Putting your signature to the Dutton petition was a disgraceful act … Clearly you are out of touch with the Boothby electorate. You have lost my support.”
